Ed O'Neill has a pretty light schedule these days. He has a movie coming out on June 4, the documentary 'Delicious Peace Grows in a Ugandan Coffee Bean,' which he narrates. Otherwise, he can relax until July 8, when 'Modern Family' will likely receive a slew of Emmy nominations (the Academy has enlisted his TV wife, Sofia Vergara, and 'Community's' Joel McHale to read the nomination announcements), and then, until the end of July, when the cast meets to begin filming the hit ABC comedy's second season.
O'Neill called TV Squad from his home in Los Angeles to talk about 'Modern Family's' Emmy odds, what to expect from season 2, the mysterious origins of the romance between his character and Vergara's and the show's long-term future. He also updated us on the whereabouts of his old castmates from 'Married... With Children.'

Fans of ever-smiling comedy icon Fred Willard will be pleased to learn that Phil Dunphy's father Frank will be pulling his RV back into Modern Family next season thanks to a casting match made in heaven (with a little help from series star Ty Burrell). "They said that I should be back, because they asked me for my photo to put in the hallway there on the set - that I'm part of the family now!" Willard tells TV Guide Magazine. The actor, who rose to prominence on the 70s series Fernwood Tonight and director Christopher Guest's improved film oeuvre, credits Burrell for bringing him into the Dunphy clan. "I worked with Ty on Back to You with Kelsey Grammer and I'd never seen him before - and I loved him!" said Willard. "He made me laugh so much. He was the on-the-spot reporter, and I got to be quite friendly with him. He's an awfully nice guy, and I think he was pretty instrumental in having me on the show. He kept talking to [co-creator] Steve Levitan, saying 'We've got to get Fred on!' So we had a lot of fun, and we have the same sense of humor. And he's just a nice guy!" Burrell tells TV Guide Magazine that he feels Willard's trademark comic persona was essentially the template for the relentlessly upbeat, well-intentioned and un-self-aware Phil, and was the only choice to play his papa. A producer of ABC's hit sitcom "Modern Family" said an episode that prominently featured Apple's iPad went overboard in hyping the product. "It may have gone a little too far in hindsight," said Jeff Morton, a "Modern Family" producer who was speaking Saturday at the Producer Guild's Produced By 2010 industry conference on the Fox lot. In the episode in question, one of the characters is obsessed with getting an Apple iPad for his birthday. The episode aired around the time that the tablet went on sale. Though neither ABC nor 20th Century Fox Television, which produces the show were compensated by Apple for the episode, Morton said, "the public thought it was a giant sellout" that "sort of backfired on us." It probably didn't help matters that Apple Chairman Steve Jobs sits on ABC's board, which fueled conspiracy theories about the episode. To Read More Click Here.
