The cast of Modern Family literally gets shaken up next season when an earthquake hits! The trembler is just a small quake but has residual aftershocks for the whole family. "It's a very tiny little earthquake but spins stories off into different directions," co-executive producer Brad Walsh told TV Guide Magazine at the Paley Center Presents 'Inside the Writer's Room: Modern Family' on Monday in L.A. "It's going to be about how they react to the earthquake and the problems that it brings to the surface." One of the knee-shaking repercussions is that Mitchell and Cameron use the quake as an excuse to get out of a party, which backfires on them with the usual hilarious results. Also, "Jay decides he doesn't want to go to church that day, and Gloria sees it as a sign of God," reveals co-creator/executive producer Steve Levitan. "It's just a shaker that knocks things off shelves - no one is pinned under a dresser." To Read More Click Here.

Though the actors who announce the Emmy nominations are often awarded with one of their own, Modern Family's Sofia Vergara had no inkling that a nomination for best supporting actress in a comedy series was coming her way. "I'm so new to acting and America, so I didn't know it meant something when they invite you here," she tells TV Guide Magazine. "Somebody should have told me!" There was, however, one nod she was expecting. "I was completely sure that Modern Family was going to be nominated [for best comedy]. We had such an amazing year." Vergara, who is in the same category as co-star Julie Bowen, calls their shared honor "fantastic." She adds that it already feels like they've all won. "The whole cast is nominated, so we're going to have a great table. Do you sit at a table? No? We'll all go together, so we'll have fun!"

I thought I had sufficiently raved about Modern Family last week, giving you the top 10 reasons to love the show, but now I learn that there's even more reason to give the ABC freshman sitcom props. If the 14 Emmy nominations weren't enough of a sign of respect, now the actual Respect Awards will honor the show, courtesy of the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN). The Respect Awards "recognize individual and corporate leaders who have helped propel GLSEN's efforts to ensure safe schools for all of America's students, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity/expression." As fans of the show are aware, two of the main characters, Cameron (Eric Stonestreet) and Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson), are gay, first-time parents, with an adopted daughter, Lily. The honest portrayal of the couple is just one of the reasons the show was honored.

Eric Stonestreet can add "Emmy nominee" to his resume now, but the Modern Family actor isn't expecting any special treatment after today. "My girlfriend asked if she has to call me 'Emmy nominee' from now on this morning. I said no!" Stonestreet tells TVGuide.com. "I never set out to be nominated for anything, but I always knew it was possible if I was doing the job I hoped to be doing. It's just really nice to say I've been acknowledged by my peers and that people respect the work that I'm doing. I take it very seriously. I'm just really thrilled, humbled and proud."

Ty Burrell could only think of one word to describe Modern Family's 14 Emmy nominations (including one for him): "Incredible." "What else can you say? I can't believe it. I can and I can't," he tells TVGuide.com. "It's one of those special situations where I feel like every facet of the show was recognized for the quality. There are so many nuts and bolts that go into making a show. To have our direction and editing and casting and all of that be recognized is really thrilling." The hit ABC comedy scored five acting nominations - the most of any show - for its main cast. Sofia Vergara and Julie Bowen will face off in the supporting actress race, while Burrell will duke it out with Eric Stonestreet and Jesse Tyler Ferguson. The one glaring omission: Family patriarch Ed O'Neill.
