The series is a satirical look at the everyday lives of a modern day American family, each with very different backgrounds, as they are taped by a Dutch documentary crew. The crew is using them as the subject of a reality-based television series that will air in The Netherlands.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson stars as Mitchell, Jay's son. Mitchell has been in a five year relationship with his partner Cameron, and adopts a kid from Vietnam in the pilot.
Eric Stonestreet stars as the hilarious larger-than-life Cameron.Cameron is Mitchell's partner and with him has adopted a baby from Vietnam that they name Lily.
